Skopje, 10 November 2023 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski received Friday the credentials of Bae Jongin, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to North Macedonia.

In his address at the ceremony, President Pendarovski noted that the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2019 opened up significant opportunities for the promotion of cooperation in all areas of mutual interests, stressing North Macedonia’s interest in strengthening economic ties, as well as cooperation in the field of culture, education, science, and tourism.

According to a press release from his Office, President Pendarovski said North Macedonia and the Republic of Korea strive towards the same values of democracy and functional multilateralism.

He noted that the value of human rights and freedoms, peace and stability, are values that are deeply engraved in the collective memories of the peoples of both countries, and added that this creates an excellent basis for further deepening of relations, despite the geographic distance between the countries.

In his address, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Bae Jongin, stressed that the joint commitment to democratic values represents a sound foundation for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries, and voiced hope over the strengthening of economic ties in the field of trade, investments, automotive industry, energy, and advanced technology.

“Ambassador Jongin said that the initial steps have already been taken, and pointed to the joint project of the customs services of the two countries as an example, and voiced hope that similar projects will be implemented next year. He said a great emphasis would be placed on the promotion of Korean culture in the Republic of North Macedonia and announced the opening of an Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Skopje, which would play a key role in the strengthening of bilateral relations,” said the President’s Office in the press release.
