PPO launches probe against Macedonian citizen over 2023 murder in Hanioti

Skopje, 30 November 2024 (MIA) — The Skopje Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation against a 33-year-old Macedonian citizen on suspicion of murdering Orhan Bajrami in Hanioti, Greece, in July 2023, the PPO said in a press release.


The probe was launched on suspicion of murder under Article 123 and Article 22 as well as illegal possession of firearms under Article 396 of the Criminal Code.


According to the PPO, the suspect, together with an unindentified accomplice, on July 15, 2023, in Hanioti, Greece, intentionally took the life of Bajrami and endangered the lives of four other people.


"The suspect and his accomplice arrived in disguise at the tourist complex where the victim was staying and approached the open back balcony door," the release says, adding that the suspect fired 11 bullets from a 7.65 mm caliber gun with a silencer and his accomplice fired eight more bullets from an identical gun. 


"Three of the bullets ended up in the body of the now deceased, causing him fatal injuries," the release says. 


The Greek law authorities issued an arrest warrant for the suspect. A European arrest warrant and an international arrest warrant were also issued. Based on the instruments of international legal cooperation, the PPO said, the Greek authorities transferred the criminal prosecution to the Skopje PPO.


The PPO has filed a request to the Criminal Court to order detention for the suspect. mr/
