Skopje, 24 March 2023 (MIA) - Two persons from the Skopje village of Arachinovo have been detained after police officers found 35kg of marijunana worth EUR 100,000 in their vehicle, the Ministry of Interior said on Friday.

Early today, police officers signalled a vehicle to stop at the Gostivar-Tetovo toll. However, the driver and one other passenger failed to stop and sped away but were soon cought.

Four bags of marijuana weighing about 35kg were found during the search of the vehicle trunk. Upon receiving a court order, the police also conducted searches in the homes of the Arachinovo villagers and found items linked to the crime.

The driver was also wanted by a national warrant after he escaped from the Shtip prison, where he had about 6,5 years left to serve for multiple crimes such as migrant smuggling and drug trafficking.

The two have been detained and will be charged for unauthorized production and distribution of narcotics, in line with Article 215 of the Criminal Code.
