Police seize amphetamine precursor valued at EUR 50 million
Skopje, 3 February 2022 (MIA) – Over a ton of amphetamine precursor was seized Thursday at the Skopje airport as part of an international police operation, it was revealed. North Macedonia’s police and prosecution in charge of fighting organized crime, Turkish prosecutors, the customs administrations of Turkey and North Macedonia, as well as the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC) were involved in the operation. “The precursor, ordered from China by North Macedonia national, arrived in North Macedonia via Turkey. Its final destination was the EU, where it was supposed to be used for the production of the synthetic drugs amphetamine and methamphetamine,” Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski said. Amphetamine valued at more than EUR 50 million should have been produced according to the amount of the seized precursor, according to the authorities. Two people, members of the international organized criminal group, were arrested. “Activities are under way for the arrest of other people,” said Spasovski. Forty packages of the precursor known as BMK (P2P) weighting a total of 1,105 kilograms were seized, said the prosecutor’s office, adding that detention will be ordered for the suspects.
