Skopje, 14 November 2024 (MIA) - The police detained late Wednesday a 27-year-old person from Skopje, who is suspected of migrant smuggling.

The person was driving an "Audi" vehicle with Skopje license plates at the Tabanovce-Kumanovo motorway section, near the village of Tabanovce. After the police stopped the vehicle, he tried to flee but was soon caught by the police officers, who also found eight migrants from Syria in the vehicle, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.

The migrants have been transferred to the Reception Center for Foreigners in Skopje and the Tabanovce Transit Center, while the detainee will be charged accordingly, in coordination with a public prosecutor.
