Skopje, 8 February 2024 (MIA) - Border police officers detained a 21-year-old Skopje citizen under the suspicion of migrant smuggling near Gevgelija late on Wednesday.

Police officers spotted migrants entering a vehicle with Kosovo register plates and signalled the driver to stop. After disobeying the order, the officers chased the car at the Gevgelija-Skopje motorway. Meanwhile, the driver offloaded the migrants but was later caught and detained by the police, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.

Upon searching the surrounding area, the police found four migrants from Syria.

Investigation in the case is underway.
