Police confirm deadly explosion at bar in Switzerland's Crans-Montana

Geneva, 1 January 2026 (dpa/MIA) - An explosion in a bar in southern Switzerland during New Year's celebrations has left people dead and injured, authorities confirmed early on Thursday.
A police spokesman said the explosion occurred at around 1:30 am (0030 GMT) in a bar in the ski resort town of Crans-Montana. He spoke of several injuries and deaths.
Reports said more than 100 people were in the bar at the time of the incident. The cause of the explosion is still unknown.
Police, firefighters and several helicopters were on site after the incident.
An emergency doctor told the Swiss broadcaster RTS that people with severe burns had been taken to nearby hospitals. The situation was under control by the morning, a police spokesman told journalists.
