Poland joins Czech Republic in extending border checks with Slovakia
- Poland has joined the Czech Republic in extending its temporary border controls with Slovakia by three weeks until November 22 in an effort to fight people smuggling.
Warsaw, 2 November 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Poland has joined the Czech Republic in extending its temporary border controls with Slovakia by three weeks until November 22 in an effort to fight people smuggling.
A corresponding decree from the Interior Ministry was published on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the Czech Cabinet in Prague decided to extend controls at the border with Slovakia until November 22. The Czech government introduced temporary border checks with Slovakia at the beginning of October. The checks had been previously extended until November 2.
Before their partition in 1993, the Czech Republic and Slovakia formed a common state, Czechoslovakia. The economic, cultural and family ties between the two neighbours are close.
