PM Zaev: Vevchani, region get tourism center in accordance with modern European standards
Vevchani, 29 August 2021 (MIA) – Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi and Vevchani Municipality Mayor Sasho Jankoski on Sunday visited Vevchani’s new tourism center.
The center is a modern, multifunctional venue covering 1,400 square meters, equipped with a congress hall, several seminar rooms and a museum space showcasing the flora and fauna of the “Vevchani Springs” protected area and Jablanica Mountain, as well as an info center, souvenir shop, gallery and gym.
Zaev stressed that the Vevchani tourism center is the envy of the most modern European municipalities. The building formerly served as an elementary school, constructed between 1948 and 1951. Its revitalization was carried out by the offspring of the original builders.
“When I visited Vevchani during the 2016 election campaign I promised to transform the former school building into a modern, multifunctional tourism center. Today, we’re standing in front of the fully renovated venue,” Zaev noted.
According to him, the architectural uniqueness of the building has been preserved, but the building itself has been repurposed to better serve the needs of the community and the region.
“It will ensure the promotion and development of tourism, not only in Vevchani, but in the entire region and become one of our strongest and most attractive tourism potentials,” the PM stressed.
Deputy PM Bytyqi underlined that the Vevchani tourism center is part of the project for local and regional competitiveness, implemented by the government, the EU Delegation and the World Bank Office, which includes 57 subprojects in 10 locations.
“This project, which stands at EUR 21 million, along with the TAV program worth EUR 50 million, which entails realization of 94 infrastructure projects in nearly all municipalities across the country, prove that the government is focused on balanced regional development and providing better living conditions for citizens, as well as higher quality conditions for local economic development nationwide. Vechani’s tourism center will boost the attractiveness of this destination and enrich the experience of tourists visiting Vevchani,” Bytyqi said.
Vevchani Mayor Jankoski added that the realization of the project has made the dream of Vevchani residents for the reconstruction of the old school building a reality. The tourism center, he underlined, will provide opportunities for development of local capacities and improving the attractiveness of Vevchani, Struga, Ohrid and the broader region.
