PM Xhaferi meets EBRD President Renaud-Basso

Skopje, 26 February 2024 (MIA) – On the sidelines of the Western Balkans Investment Summit hosted in London by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi held a meeting with the President of the EBRD, Odile Renaud-Basso, during which they voiced mutual satisfaction over the decades-long cooperation and the assistance that North Macedonia receives from the Bank, said the Government in a press release Monday.

 

At the meeting, President Renaud-Basso congratulated Prime Minister Xhaferi on his election to the post and voiced her expectation that the excellent cooperation between the EBRD and the Government of North Macedonia would continue under his leadership, said the Government.

 

At the same time, according to the press release, the EBRD President voiced gratitude over the swift conclusion of the process for the ratification of the amendments to the Agreement Establishing the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, highlighting the country’s efficiency in doing so.

 

Xhaferi said the Government of North Macedonia highly values the assistance from the EBRD, both in the public sector and the development of the private sector and domestic businesses. At the same time, he reaffirmed the Government’s full commitment to the implementation of the current portfolio of projects, as well as the preparation of future projects that would be financed by the bank.

 

He stressed the significant and tangible assistance provided by the EBRD in the transport sector, through which the Government is providing better conditions for the citizens in road and rail transportation, said the press release.

 

At the meeting, Xhaferi and Renaud-Basso spoke about support in the field of the environment through the Regional Solid Waste Project, as well as the construction of the wastewater treatment plant in Skopje. This field also includes a project for an accelerated transition away from coal, as well as the project for regional gasification, said the press release.
