PM says inflation settling at three percent, urges traders to reduce margins

Makedonska Kamenica, 28 August 2024 (MIA) - Inflation has settled over the past couple of months at three percent, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Wednesday.

"Nevertheless, it should go down further. I would like to see deflation but we managed to stabilize the free fall and the double-digit inflation," PM Mickoski told reporters regarding citizens' complaints over rising prices in supermarkets.

He said food prices should be lower and urged traders to reduce margins as much as possible.

"We are a market economy and the market dictates the prices. If we go into a restriction policy, it will yield opposite effects. That is why the policy of this Government is to support investments and not maintain an artificially-built public consumption, because money lose value by the month," said Mickoski.

According to him, the Government has worked on stopping the free fall, stabilization of the system and the institutions.

"I believe this process will last by the beginning of the fall, and we expect to reach the zero-level by the year-end. Development and progress is expected to begin with next year's budget," said Mickoski.
