PM says all political parties, experts, Justice Ministry to take part in process of constitutional changes
Skopje, 30 October 2022 (MIA) – The constitutional revision is an issue of procedure that will start as soon as the changes are supported by all. The procedure will include a discussion among all political parties, experts in constitutional law and the Ministry of Justice, resulting in a Constitution supported by the vast majority represented in Parliament, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Sunday. Asked by reporters on the proposal of several political parties from the Albanian bloc for cancellation of the “20 percent” wording regarding the language and its replacement with “Albanian language”, which would be their condition for support of the constitutional changes, the PM said it is good to discuss about the constitutional changes and that no political party opposes them. “At the onset, there were political parties, primarily VMRO-DPMNE, which did not even want to talk about this but now they are open for discussion under certain terms, the same as the other political parties,” said Kovachevski. He added that all political stakeholders should have the EU accession path as their priority, since the constitutional changes would result in sooner closure of the screening stage and opening of the negotiating chapters.
