PM Kovachevski in Prague for 1st meeting of European Political Community
Skopje, 6 October 2022 (MIA) – At an invitation by the European Council President Charles Michel and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Thursday will visit Prague to attend the first meeting of the European Political Community alongside the leaders from 44 countries, including 27 EU member countries, Western Balkan countries, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland, as well as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be also in attendance.
PM Kovachevski will head a government delegation to attend the first European Political Community meeting, consisting of Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani and Agriculture Minister Ljupcho Nikolovski, the government said.
The event will feature plenary debates and roundtable discussions in relation to current affairs over the energy and economic crisis, energy supply, as well as discussions on climate challenges and on peace and security in the context of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine.
PM Kovachevski will take part in a plenary session alongside ministers Osmani and Nikolovski before taking part in a roundtable on energy and economy with the leaders of the European countries. He is also scheduled to have bilateral talks, said the press release.
In Prague, Kovachevski and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal will attend the signing of agreements between North Macedonia and Ukraine regarding free trade and food supply.
PM Kovachevski will also attend a summit of the Party of European Socialists (PES), which will bring together premiers from social democratic, socialist and democratic parties.
The European Political Community is a platform for political coordination of the European countries that aims at bringing together European leaders in the spirit of equality and unity once or twice a year.
The Czech government is hosting the events after taking over the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU.
