PM Kovachevski extends Ss.Cyril and Methodius greetings

Skopje, 24 May 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski has extended greetings to the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archdiocese and its followers on occasion of May 24-Day of Pan-Slavic Educators Ss.Cyril and Methodius, highlighting their enormous significance in creating the first Slavic alphabet that embeds the roots of Macedonian literacy.

"May 24 enlightens the epochal work of Saints Cyril and Methodius as creators of the first Slavic alphabet - the Glagolitic - which embeds the roots of Macedonian literacy, and educators who managed to bring the Slavic culture at an equal footing with other cultures in Europe of that time," says PM Kovachevski in the note.

Brothers Cyril and Methodius, he adds, also laid the foundations of interculturalism and the unity of European nations, earning them the tile of saints of the Orthodox Church and co-patrons, as well as patrons of Europe as declared by the Roman-Catholic Church.

"Considering that Slavic literacy, including the Macedonian literacy, continues to develop at Macedonian soil under the auspices of the Ohrid Archdiocese, the spiritual-educating legacy of Cyril and Methodius is of invaluable significance for our autocephalous church, which as of last year has been recognized as equal with all Orthodox churches, alongside the Macedonian literacy, language, culture and identity," says Kovachevski.
