Skopje, 23 June 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Friday he does not expect the electricity price to increase.

"The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) sets the price. I do not expect a price shock, I said the same before the penultimate decision on the electricity price was made. At that time, everyone was saying that the electricity price was going to rise from 30 to 60 percent. Those people were experts on Covid, then became experts on electricity, and now they are experts on constitutional changes. They are skeptics and criticizers who want to bring unrest and spread disinformation among the citizens," said Kovachevski.

The PM added that the Budget has the financial resources needed for anti-crisis measures to help the Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM).

Regarding the introduction of a daytime electricity cheap rate, Kovachevski said the ERC would make that decision, and that EVN will need time to adjust electricity meters in all households.

"If such decision is made, because I cannot speak for ERC, then surely EVN will need some time to set up the electricity meters in all households," noted Kovachevski.

The price of electricity for small companies is also being taken into consideration in order for it to be at a sustainable level for their production.ESM submitted an electricity price bid to universal electricity supplier EVN Home at EUR 53/MWh. ssh/ad/
