PHI weekly report shows 44 new whooping cough cases, 597 in total

Skopje, 17 May 2024 (MIA) - Forty-four new cases of whooping cough (pertussis) were registered in North Macedonia between May 10-16, five of whom have been hospitalized. Most of the new cases were registered in Skopje (39), four in Kumanovo, and one in Prilep.
The ages of the newly registered patients range from 3 months to 77 years, with most patients being between the ages of 5-9, shows the latest weekly report of the Public Health Institute (PHI).
As of May 16, a total of 597 whooping cough cases have been recorded.
PHI reminds there are two ongoing epidemics reported on the territory of Skopje and Kumanovo.
A total of 47,982 doses of vaccine have been administered between January 18 and May 16.
