Petrovska: NATO membership is commitment to peace, stability, global security

Skopje, 4 April 2024 (MIA) — To mark NATO's 75 years of collective defense across Europe and North America since its founding treaty was signed on April 4, 1949, Minister of Defense Slavjanka Petrovska addressed the country in a video message.

In the message, Minister Petrovska said the Alliance was a cornerstone of collective security and democratic values worldwide.

North Macedonia joined NATO four years ago and this membership, she noted, "is a strong guarantee of our independence and sovereignty."

"The country's security and stability," she added, "is guaranteed from within as well as by our allies."

"As Minister of Defense, I feel it is a great honor and responsibility to lead our defense in these times when cooperation and collective defense are more important than ever.

"Our integration into NATO is not only a confirmation of our commitment to peace and stability, but also a testimony to our readiness to contribute to global security," Petrovska said.

She stressed that North Macedonia shared the same purpose and values as NATO allies.

"We have the same goal and common mission with our allies. We have the same values: security, stability, peace, solidarity and mutual support. Together, we are stronger and better prepared to face any challenges ahead. Only through collective defense and cooperation can we build permanent and lasting peace," Petrovska pointed out. mr/
