Skopje, 17 June 2022 (MIA) - F-35 fighter jets of the Vermont National Guard landed at the Skopje airport for the first time on record, preceded by an overflight of Skopje, said Defense Minister Slavjanka Petrovska on Friday,
Minister Petrovska said this move was another proof of the unbreakable bond between North Macedonia and NATO allies.
“Over the past period, all Alliance member-states sent messages of unity. We are witnessing this in North Macedonia as well. The country has been part of the NATO air policing mission for over a year now. This element of integrating our airspace in NATO is one of the most important activities of the army in times of peace,” said Petrovska.
She added that Macedonian airports can provide support to F-35 jets in carrying out various missions and in providing security in the NATO airspace.
Petrovska noted that the F-35's landing at the Skopje airport was the most obvious example of strategic partnership and mutual trust between the United States and North Macedonia.
