Petrol station payments stop working across Iran

Petrol station payments stop working across Iran
A technical problem has paralysed the payment system at petrol stations nationwide in Iran, authorities said on Tuesday. "In the morning, we received the news that due to a software defect, refuelling with the subsidy card is no longer possible in many petrol stations nationwide," a spokesman for the petrol station association said on Tuesday, according to the ISNA news agency. Iranians can still fill up their vehicles without this fuel subsidy card, but the fuel is then twice as expensive. Witnesses reported that long queues had formed in front of petrol stations in the capital Tehran. As the problem was still not fixed after several hours, speculation circulated on social media about a cyberattack on the software of the payment system of the petrol stations, with many blaming Iran's arch-enemy, Israel.
