Skopje, 21 July 2021 (MIA) – The Criminal Code currently states that selling cannabis and other narcotics is a crime, the government said on Wednesday. Although recreational use of cannabis isn’t a crime, there are still ambiguities and abuse in practice, such as situations in which people using cannabis recreationally are being charged with intent to sell, briefed the government. It expects ongoing Criminal Code changes to confirm explicitly that personal use isn’t a crime, meaning that people using cannabis for recreational or medical purposes can’t be imprisoned. Moreover, the term personal use will also have to be more clearly defined, the government added.
