Pendarovski - Zelensky: North Macedonia supports Ukraine's NATO membership application

Skopje, 28 February 2024 (MIA) - Latest developments in Ukraine and opportunities for enhancement of cooperation and support for the people of Ukraine in restoring the country's territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders were in the focus of the meeting of President Stevo Pendarovski with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, within the Ukraine – Southeast Europe Summit held in Tirana on Wednesday.

President Pendarovski reaffirmed the position that North Macedonia has strongly condemned Russia's aggression on Ukraine since the very beginning, considering it a violation of the UN Charter and the OSCE principles, his Office said in a press release.

Pendarovski said North Macedonia has joined the Crimea Platform, adopted the Declaration condemning military aggression against Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and joined the G7 Joint Declaration of support for Ukraine, the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, and supported the formation of a Special Tribunal investigating and prosecuting crimes of aggression by the Russian Federation.

The President also welcomed the European Council's decision to open Ukraine's EU accession talks, noting that North Macedonia remains committed to the NATO open-door policy and supports Ukraine's application for Alliance membership.

Zelensky thanked Pendarovski for North Macedonia's firm position and comprehensive support provided to Ukraine, reads the press release.
