Pendarovski on World Press Freedom Day calls for an environment where media workers feel safe and protected

Skopje, 3 May 2024 (MIA) - In a message on World Press Freedom Day, President Stevo Pendarovski says we must continue to invest in establishing standards that will allow the media to work and develop freely and independently.

"Media freedom is one of the foundations of democratic values and is essential for the democratic development of Macedonian society. Quality, professional and independent journalists, who understand the seriousness and difficulty of creating public opinion, can represent a strong voice of the public. That is why we must continue to invest in establishing standards that will allow the media to work and develop freely and independently. Let's build an environment where media workers feel safe and protected, and have the virtue to accept criticism and support freedom of expression. Only in this way will we have powerful and strong media and journalists who will be objective in reporting and will serve the public, not the political elites and funding sources," said President Pendarovski congratulating media workers.
