Pendarovski: No agreement between parties on constitutional changes meeting

Tetovo, 13 April 2023 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski told reporters in Tetovo he believes there is no agreement between all political stakeholders over a potential leaders’ meeting on the constitutional changes.

“For a meeting we need two, three, five of the participating parties to agree to attend. Currently, there is no such agreement. If one side wants to discuss the so-called Croatian model, the other side says we’ve concluded that topic more than 20 years ago. If one side says let's talk about incorporating the Bulgarians within the Constitution, since this is the main requirement for the continuation of our EU path, the other side says no. You can’t make anyone hold talks by force,” said Pendarovski in Tetovo.

In answer to a journalist’s question on the proposal of some parties to replace the phrase “20 percent” with “the Albanian language” in the Constitution, President Pendarovski said he sees no issues with that.

“I’ve said this many times in the past, I see absolutely no issues with that, and I would support it because I think it is a normal thing. Why should someone’s ethnic identity, which is clear and indisputable, be hidden behind figures,” said President Pendarovski.

President Stevo Pendarovski held a lecture Thursday at the South-East European University in Tetovo.
