Pendarovski: Law on Associations contains Article under which work of existing associations can be reviewed
Skopje, 10 October 2022 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski said there are legal experts who claim that based on the current Law on Associations and Foundations, there is an Article under which the work of existing associations can be reviewed if it is not in line with what they have declared.
According to him, one of those conditions is if they incite national or religious hatred and intolerance.
In response to a reporter’s question after Monday’s ceremony at which 13 prominent artists from the field of Macedonian folk music were awarded the Medal of Merit, the President said that in the case of the formation of associations with controversial names, it is a matter of an intention on the part of the Bulgarians living in North Macedonia.
“Some of the associations were formed three years ago. The last one was set up a year ago. It’s not possible that just as we start the screening process and open a process of negotiations, generally after 17 years, that this happens completely accidentally. Three months ago, if you remember, I proposed that amendments be made to the current Law, and I see that the Government is announcing such a thing towards the end of the month. However, that will solve the problem for the future, i.e. from the adoption of the law and onwards,” Pendarovski added.
