Pendarovski extends congratulatory message on Day of Albanian Alphabet
Skopje, 22 November 2022 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski, on the occasion of 22 November - Day of the Albanian Alphabet, sent a congratulatory message to the members of the Albanian ethnic community in North Macedonia on Tuesday.
“Dear fellow citizens Albanians, happy November 22, the Day of the Albanian Alphabet. On this day we are reminded of one of the most important moments in the development of the Albanian language and culture. Aware that, according to the words of Gjergj Fistha, they gathered in order to select the alphabet most useful for the educational and cultural advancement of the people, the delegates at the Bitola Congress in 1908 made historic decisions in order to unify the Albanian alphabet. By doing so, they paved the way for further educational and cultural development of the Albanian people and unlocked the creative potential of generations of writers to create valuable literary works,” said Pendarovski.
In his congratulatory message the President highlighted that celebrating this holiday reaffirms North Macedonia’s commitment to nurturing coexistence in the Macedonian multi-ethnic and multilingual society.
“Coexistence is a fruit borne by trust, and trust takes roots when people respect and support the identity of others. Such trust is necessary so we can better tackle our common challenges and create a more just society with equal opportunities for all Macedonian citizens,” said Pendarovski. ad/nn/
