Skopje, 12 September 2022 (MIA) – Acceleration of the EU integration process of the Western Balkan countries is of major importance for Europe, President Stevo Pendarovski posted on Facebook, who attends Monday the 11th meeting of leaders of the Brdo-Brijuni Process in Slovenia’s Brdo pri Kranju.
“In these difficult times when the European continent is facing security challenges and an economic crisis, we must show unity and strengthen mutual regional cooperation,” Pendarovski said.
Albanian President Bajram Begaj, three members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina: Željko Komšić, Milorad Dodik and Šefik Džaferović, Kosovar President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović attend the meeting, President Pendarovski’s office said in a press release.
The meeting is hosted by Slovenian President, Borut Pahor, and the cohost is Croatia’s Zoran Milanović.
“The Brdo-Brijuni Process leaders’ meeting is an opportunity to assess the current situation in the region, EU enlargement process, security situation and Russia’s aggression against Ukraine as well as to discuss ways how to deal with energy and economic crisis due to war in Ukraine,” President Pendarovski’s office said in a press release.
The Brdo-Brijuni Process is a joint initiative by Slovenia and Croatia, formed in 2010 aimed at increasing the pace of EU integration of the Western Balkans through solving open bilateral and regional political issues. In more than a decade, the Brdo-Brijuni Process has developed into the most important political initiative of its kind in South-East Europe and subsequently gave rise to the Berlin Process.
