Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Oncology Clinic Scandal members disagree on conclusions

Skopje, 27 November 2023 (MIA) — Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Oncology Clinic Scandal members failed to agree on the conclusions of their inquiry into the political responsibility for the hospital employees' withholding life-saving medical care from cancer patients and reselling cancer drugs.

At Monday's session, committee chairwoman Rashela Mizrahi said former Minister of Health Venko Filipche, former Oncology Clinic directors Nino Vasev, Nehat Nuhi, and Irina Sotirova Bukova as well as former Health Insurance Fund directors Stevo Krstevski and Faton Ahmeti should be held politically responsible for the violation of constitutional principles and failure to act in line with health care laws and regulations.

In response, SDSM MPs said they disagreed with these conclusions because, as they said, they were conclusions of VMRO-DPMNE members only. They also demanded that Mizrahi resign as chair.

Mizrahi then adjourned the session for an hour.

While elaborating on the conclusions, Mizrahi had pointed to the State Audit Office's 2021 report on the Oncology Clinic as key evidence of wrongdoing in the hospital. She also said the committee's mandate was to end on Dec. 3. mr/
