Parliamentary delegation on working visit to EU Parliament in Strasbourg

Skopje, 14 March 2023 (MIA) – A delegation from the North Macedonia – EU Joint Parliamentary Committee is set to visit the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday and Wednesday, where it will meet with MEPs ahead of the publishing of the EU Parliament’s Draft Resolution on North Macedonia for 2022, said the Macedonian Parliament in a press release.

 

The delegation consists of Sonja Mirakovska, co-chair of the Joint Parliamentary Committee and members Zhaklina Lazarevska, Bajram Kadrija, Zhaklina Peshevska and Maja Morachanin.

 

According to the visit’s agenda, the MPs will meet with MEP Tonino Picula, coordinator of the Socialists and Democrats in the Committee on Foreign Affairs, MEP Thijs Reuten and Vladimír Bilčík, members of the North Macedonia – EU Joint Parliamentary Committee, then with Andreas Schieder, Marion Walsmann and Ilhan Kyuchyuk, members of the Jean Monet Dialogue, as well as MEP Irena Joveva, head of the informal group Friends of North Macedonia as well as member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee.

 

During the two-day visit, meetings will also be held with the chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, David McAllister, as well as meetings with the shadow rapporteurs on North Macedonia within the Committee on Foreign Affairs: Tineke Strik from the Group of the Greens, Stelios Kouloglou from the Left and Matjaž Nemec from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

 

“The shadow rapporteurs, on behalf of their political groups, are responsible for the topic and play a crucial role in the finalizing of the text of the Resolution. Namely, the first draft of the Resolution on North Macedonia by rapporteur Ilhan Kyuchyuk will be reviewed by the Committee at the end of March, it will be put to a vote in the Committee at the end of May, and is expected to be on the agenda of a plenary session of the European Parliament towards the middle of June,” the Macedonian Parliament said in the press release. ad/nn/
