Parliament signs MoU with Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance
Skopje, 19 November 2021 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi and Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) director Thomas Guerber signed on Friday a Memorandum of Understanding for a partnership in the implementation of a program for reforms in the security and intelligence sector.
Guerber, Parliament said in a press release, expressed during the event gratitude over constructive cooperation with Parliament and praised efforts for promoting monitoring in the security sector.
He underlined that adoption of laws on establishing appropriate institutions in the intelligence sector entailed complex procedures and once again reaffirmed North Macedonia’s and Parliament’s commitment to democratic reform.
Moreover, Guerber noted that DCAF is pleased that thanks to international partners such as the European Union, Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland, who contributed to the success of the ongoing project, its support for Parliament, which launched in 2018, continues until 2016.
Xhaferi highlighted at the meeting advantages from cooperation with DCAF within the program for reforms in the intelligence sector in North Macedonia and expressed assurance that Parliament’s ‘shielded room’ will soon become operational and make use of equipment procured as part of the program.
He underlined that reforms in the security and intelligence sector aim to ensure greater stability, rule of law and security in the country and meet European Union standards.
Interlocutors, the press release read, agreed that Friday’s event reaffirms North Macedonia’s commitment to building strong institutions, the trajectory of reforms and close relations with international organizations, with the aim of paving the way towards the European Union.
