Parliament kicks off session on Government reshuffle, 64 MPs vote in favor of the agenda

Skopje, 13 February 2023 (MIA) – Parliament began the session on the reshuffle of the Government on Monday afternoon. The proposal for the dismissal of members of the Government, the proposal for the election of members of the Government, the proposal for the dismissal of deputy ministers and the proposal for the appointment of deputy ministers are on the agenda of the 104th session of Parliament.

The agenda was adopted with 64 votes in favor out of 115 MPs present. There were no votes against or abstentions.

Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski addressed the MPs, stressing the need for stability and the country’s top priorities. At the beginning of the session, the PM expressed his condolences for the loss of human lives in the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.

The VMRO-DPMNE party whip, Nikola Micevski, in a procedural address said that according to Article 221 of the Rules of Procedure, the dismissal of the ministers should be on the agenda individually for each minister, adding that the opposition MPs will actively take part in the session.

With the Government reshuffle, the Alliance for Albanians (AA) is joining PM Kovachevski’s Government, while Alternativa is leaving the ruling majority.

On Monday morning, the resignations of the former Minister of Justice, Nikola Tupanchevski, and the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Naser Nuredini, were confirmed at a session of Parliament. While, the three ministers from Alternativa, Health Minister Bekim Sali, Minister of Information Society and Administration Admirim Aliti and Minister without portfolio in charge of diaspora, Xhemail Chupi, who all said they will not attend the session, will be dismissed at the 104th session.

The new Minister of Justice will be Krenar Loga, Fatmir Mexhiti will be the new Health Minister and Azir Aliu will be the new Minister of Information Society and Administration, all three come from AA’s ranks. ad/sk/
