Parliament discusses no confidence motion against Speaker Xhaferi
Skopje, 30 June 2022 (MIA) - North Macedonia's Parliament on Thursday will hold the 77th plenary session with a sole item on the agenda - a no confidence vote against Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi after a motion was filed by VMRO-DPMNE opposition lawmakers. Speaker Xhaferi has the right to elaborate his written response or make a speech regarding the submitted no-confidence motion during the day-long session, which should end by midnight. MPs from the VMRO-DPMNE-led coalition, who are enforcing a so called 'active blockade' in the legislative house, have been accusing Xhaferi of unprofessional behavior and management of Parliament after "breaching provisions of the Constitution, the Parliament's Rules of Procedures, and laws regulating activities in Parliament." Both VMRO-DPMNE MPs and opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski before filing the motion on May 30 said they don't expect Xhaferi to lose the no confidence vote and step down, but nevertheless he should answer for his actions in Parliament. In a statement, Speaker Xhaferi has called the no confidence motion "unprecedented attempt for manipulation" containing "an array of mistruths."
