Parliament decides to set up inquiry commission in oncology case

Skopje, 20 September 2023 (MIA) - Lawmakers decided on Wednesday to set up an inquiry commission in the Oncology Clinic case, with the VMRO-DPMNE motion supported by other parties.

VMRO-DPMNE MP Petar Risteski said the inquiry commission should establish if fundamental human rights of patients had been violated.

"The commission should analyse all documents in order to identify political responsibility of government and health officials involved in the affair. It is high time that the system starts to function and we finally put an end to the culture of impunity. The crime at the clinic has a name and surname and they must be held accountable," said Risteski.

SDSM supported the decision to set up the inquiry commission, which should determine political accountability, with MP Nenad Kocikj saying any abuse should be identified by name and surname and made public.

The Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case following media allegations that the Clinic staff were withholding life-saving medical care from cancer patients and reselling cancer drugs.
