Parliament adopts decision extending state of crisis regarding heating supply in Skopje
Skopje, 16 February 2022 (MIA) – The Parliament on Wednesday adopted a decision to extend the state of crisis regarding heating supply in the capital Skopje until April 30, 2022. The decision was adopted with 59 votes ‘in favor’ following a debate between the ruling party and the opposition within the Parliament’s 63rd session. The Government, i.e. the Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM) is to take on the responsibility to supply heating energy. Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi said if the crisis were to be left at the responsibility of the City of Skopje and given the infrastructure of the ten Skopje municipalities, then the entire electricity system in the country would fail because substations in the municipalities weren’t able to receive additional capacity if switching from central heating to electric heating. He called on the MPs to support the draft-decision.
