Parliament adopts consumer protection law
Skopje, 3 November 2022 (MIA) – Parliament adopted the Law on Consumer Protection through an expedited procedure on Wednesday. The key aspect of the new Law on Consumer Protection is that it pays special attention to unfair trade practices, fraudulent trade practices and aggressive trade practices in the sale of goods and services, including real estate, digital services and digital content. The draft law is expected to ensure a high level of protection of the rights of consumers, while at the same time guaranteeing easier conditions for doing business. The proposals regulate the rights and duties of consumers and traders in consumer relations, the procedures for the protection of consumer rights, improving the consumers’ knowledge of their rights and procedures of protection, the rights and duties of consumer rights associations and the rights and duties of the relevant authorities. The new legislation enables an improved realization of consumer rights through effective monitoring of the market, educating consumers about their rights, strengthening the independence of consumer protection associations and securing mechanisms for the quick resolution of consumer disputes such as the possibility for a collective resolution of consumer disputes. ad/ik/
