Parliament adopts annex extending deadline for construction of Kichevo – Ohrid motorway

Skopje, 1 April 2024 (MIA) – At an urgent session Monday, Parliament adopted the annex to the Law on realization of infrastructure projects - construction of road sections Miladinovci-Shtip and Kichevo-Ohrid.

According to the sixth annex to the contract with Chinese company "Sinohydro", the deadline for completion of the Kichevo-Ohrid motorway is postponed until the end of 2026.

Construction of the 57km-long Kichevo-Ohrid motorway began in February 2014. The initial costs were projected at EUR 374 million but rose to EUR 598 after several annexes. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has told MIA that the latest annex extends the construction deadline but the funds remain the same.

At the session, the MPs also adopted amendments to the Law on Budgets and to the Electoral Code.

The amendments to the Electoral Code specify the provisions related to the numbers under which the candidates are listed on the ballots. With the amendments, the parties standing in both the presidential and parliamentary elections will be allowed to keep the same number for both elections. Parties that only participate in the parliamentary elections will have their numbers additionally determined in a draw at the State Election Commission.

All laws at the session were approved without a discussion and in a fast-track procedure.
