Skopje, 6 September 2023 (MIA) – With 48 votes in favor, 36 against and one abstention, Parliament adopted the amendments to the Criminal Code on Wednesday evening.
The vote was preceded by a discussion in which opposition MPs voiced sharp criticism, accusing the Government of adopting the amendments in order to pardon those who have violated the law.
The VMRO-DPMNE MPs also accused the Government of abusing the EU flag once again. In response, Deputy Minister of Justice Viktorija Avramovska-Madikj, said that out of 38 articles covered by the amendment, 35 are with the EU directives.
“To avoid confusion and dilemmas over why the Law has been flagged with an EU flag, I will emphasize that it includes 38 articles, of which 35 are with the EU directives. Yesterday, when I presented the proposal, and why it should be with an EU flag and under fast-track procedure, I noted that the goal is harmonization with the European acquis,” said Avramovska-Madikj.
