Skopje, 12 September 2024 (MIA) - At a session Thursday Parliament adopted the amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance allowing for a linear increase of pensions by Mden 2.500 in September 2024 and an additional Mden 2.500 in March 2025.

Seventy-eight MPs voted in favor of the amendments. Ruling VMRO-DPMNE pledged to increase pensions as part of its election campaign.

According to the Ministry of Social Policy, Demographics and Youth, the aim of the raised pensions is to increase the living standard and ensure a better and higher quality life for pensioners.  

Earlier on Thursday, the lawmakers concluded their discussion of the amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government in a fast-track procedure. The amendments require a two-third majority, and the vote will be held at a later time.

At the session MPs discussed other legislation as well, including a fast-tracked bill for the termination of the validity of the Law on the Establishment of a State Commission for Decision-making in the Second Instance in the Field of Inspection Supervision and Misdemeanor Procedure, amendments to the Law on Audio and Audiovisual Media Services in a fast-track procedure, amendments to the Law on Free Legal Aid in a fast-track procedure, and amendments to the Law on Use of Public Sector Data.
