Palestinian boy dies in Gaza a week after border clashes with Israel
A 12-year-old Palestinian boy has died from gunshot wounds sustained during clashes with Israeli soldiers who opened fire at the Gaza border a week ago, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Saturday. He was the second fatality to result from the riots after a member of Hamas' military wing, the Qassam Brigades, died on Wednesday of gunshot wounds. Another 39 Palestinians and an Israeli border police officer were injured in the confrontations that erupted at a huge Palestinian protest a week ago. Israel said the army opened fire to disperse to the Palestinians who had converged along the border fence and were throwing explosive objects. Israel also retaliated by attacking targets of the ruling Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The clashes were the most violent along the border since the end of the weekly Great March of Return protests in 2019. In May, Israel and Palestinian militants engaged in an 11-day armed conflict in which 13 people were killed in Israel, according to official figures, and 255 people died in the Gaza Strip, according to the Health Ministry. The EU, Israel and the US classify Hamas as a terrorist organization.
