Over 30 mayors elected in first round, counting ongoing in 5 municipalities
Skopje, 18 October 2021 (MIA) – According to results of the State Election Commission (SEC) after processing 100% of data from Sunday’s local elections, the first round, 33 mayors were elected, but turnover census wasn’t met for one mayoral candidate. Votes in the municipalities of Aerodrom, Gjorche Petrov, Resen and Centar, as well as the City of Skopje are yet to be fully counted. In the Municipality of Arachinovo, where 100% of the ballots are counted, DUI’s candidate won 44.23% of votes and the SDSM-led coalition candidate won 39.14%. They will face off in the runoff, scheduled on October 31. SDSM’s candidate will be the next mayor of Berovo after having won 51.25% of votes. The candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM for mayor of Bitola will vie in the runoff after winning 42.83% and 39.3% of votes respectively. SDSM’s candidate won the municipality of Bogdanci after winning 50.70% of votes. There will be a second election round in Bogovinje after DUI’s candidate won 47.29% of votes and the candidate of Alliance for Albanians/Alternativa coalition won 27.54%. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate will be the mayor of Bosilovo after having won 58.33% of votes. Brvenica residents will vote in a runoff to choose between the VMRO-DPMNE candidate who won 29.67% of votes and the independent candidate Enver Pajaziti, who secured 19.07% of votes. Winning 52.79% of votes, the VMRO-DPMNE candidate won in the municipality of Butel. The SDSM candidate, winning 57.73% of votes, won in Valandovo. Vasilevo will hold a second round, which will see the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM vying for the mayoral post after winning 48.81% and 47.94% of votes respectively. Vevchani will also hold a second round between the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE (49.68% of votes) and SDSM (44.69%). The Municipality of Veles will be managed by the VMRO-DPMNE candidate after winning 51.63% of votes. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate also won in Vinica securing 54.74% of votes. After winning 41.38% and 34.58% of votes respectively, there will be showdown between the candidates of Alliance for Albanians/Alternativa and DUI in Vrapchishte. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate won the municipality of Gazi Baba after securing the trust of 60.07% of voters. Gevgelija will have a second round between the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM, who respectively won 47.11% and 34.69% of votes. The candidates of AA/Alternativa and DUI will face off in Gostivar in the second round on October 31 after winning 49.88% and 41.84% of votes respectively. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate is the new mayor of Gradsko after winning 55.66% of votes. Debar residents will elect a new mayor in the runoff choosing between the candidate of AA/Alternativa, who won 49.69% of votes in Sunday’s elections, and the candidate of DUI, who secured 46.15% of votes. Debrca will also have a runoff, where voters will choose between an independent candidate and the candidate of SDSM. They won 36.96% and 34.36% of votes respectively. The SDSM candidate is the new mayor of Delchevo after winning 51.14% of votes. SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE will have a showdown in Demir Kapija in the second round. Their candidates qualified after winning 48.59% and 47.59% of votes respectively. The candidates of the two largest parties will vie in the second round in Demir Hisar, where the SDSM candidate won 47.37% of votes in Sunday’s elections and 46.92% of voters voted for the VMRO-DPMNE candidate. The SDSM candidate was re-elected in Dojran after winning 53.21% of votes. Candidates of the ruling coalition partners DUI and SDSM will face off in Dolneni with DUI’s candidate winning the support of 28.56% of voters and SDSM’s candidate securing 21.22% of votes. DUI and BESA will face off in Zhelino after their candidates won 46.63% and 42.09% of votes respectievly. In Zelenikovo, voters will elect new mayor in the second round choosing between VMRO-DPMNE's candidate, who won 45.4% of votes on Sunday, and SDSM's candidate (44.3%). The VMRO-DPMNE candidate won Zrnovci after winning 54.54% of votes. VMRO-DPMNE also won in Ilinden with 53.4% of votes. In Jegunovce, the VMRO-DPMNE candidate won in the first round withy 50.4% of votes. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate also won in Kavadarci after having won 72.35% of votes. In Karbinci, the VMRO-DPMNE candidate will be the new mayor in the next four years winning 59.4% of votes. Voters in Karposh will hit the poll in the second round to choose between the SDSM candidate and GROM's candidate after winning 32.25% and 23.69% of votes respectively The VMRO-DPMNE candidate won in Kisela Voda winning 52.5% of votes. Kichevo will have a showdown between the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and DUI. In the first round they won 38.42% and 37.3% respectievly. In Konche, the candidates of SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE will vie for the post of mayor in the second round after having won 46.83% and 41.56% respectively in the first round. SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE will also face off in Kochani. Their candidates won 48.16% of votes (SDSM) and 45.3% (VMRO-DPMNE). Kratovo will have a runoff between the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM. They won 48.89% and 29.71% respectively in Sunday's first round. The SDSM candidate won in Kriva Palanka with 54.75% of votes in his favor. The SDSM candidate won Krivogashtani with 50.83% of votes. The SDSM candidate won in Krushevo, where 52.7% of voters voted for him. In Kumanovo, the second round will see a showdown between the independent candidate and SDSM's candidate, who won 32.79% and 32.74% respectively on Sunday. DUI's candidate declared landslide victory in Lipkovo winning 72.59% of votes. In Lozovo, the candidates of SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE qualified for a second round winning 44.78% and 27.58% respectively in Sunday's elections. There will be second round of local elections in Mavrovo and Rostushe between the candidates of SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE. On Sunday, they won 48.15% and 48% respectively. The SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE candidates will vie in the second round in Makedonska Kamenica after winning 32.23% and 30.41% respectievly. Makedonski Brod will have a second round to vote for mayor between the candidate of VMRO-DPMNE and the independent candidate, who won 31.59% of votes. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate won 37.39%. Winning 57.28% of votes in Mogila, the VMRO-DPMNE candidate is the new mayor. In Negotino, the VMRO-DPMNE candidate Goran Stojanov won with 51.94% of votes. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate won 51.29% of votes in Sunday to be the mayor of Novaci. Novo Selo is headed for a runoff between the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM, who won 48.88% and 47.51% of votes respectively. Ohrid in the second round will vote between the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE (48.54% of votes in the first round) and SDSM (42.05%). Winning 63.84% of votes, the VMRO-DPMNE candidate is the mayor of Petrovec. A runoff will be organized in Pehchevo between the candidates of SDSM (39.73%) and VMRO-DPMNE (38.72%). The DUI candidate won in Plasnica with 76.65% of votes. Winning 54.84% of votes, the VMRO-DPMNE candidate won in Prilep. Probishtip will have a second round to vote between SDSM's candidate, who won 49.41% of votes on Sunday, and the candidate of VMRO-DPMNE, who secured 43.99%. Radovish will have a runoff between the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM after winning 38.58% and 25.86% of votes respectively. The candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM won enough votes - 42.6% and 38.69% - to have a runoff in Rankovce. Rosoman is also headed for runoff between the candidates of SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE, who won 45.38% and 37.43% of votes on Sunday. DUI won in Saraj with 73.1% of votes. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate is the mayor of Sveti Nikole after winning 51.97% of votes. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate also won in Sopishte. 65.03% of its residents voted for him. The candidates of SDSM and TMRO will face off in Staro Nagorichane after securing 49.56% and 26.63% of votes respectively. The candidates of DUI and AA/Alternativa will have showdown in Struga on October 31. On Sunday, they won 40.5% and 34.82% respectively. The SDSM candidate won in Strumica winning 53.7% of votes. Studenichani will have a second round between the candidates of DPA and DUI, who won 38.7% and 31.85% of votes respectively. The candidates of DUI and AA/Alternativa will face off in Tearce after winning 40.82% and 25.25% respectively. Tetovo will chose between DUI and BESA in the runoff after their candidates won 29.04% and 27.37% respectively on Sunday. DPTM's candidate won in Centar Zhupa. He won 71.16% of votes but voter turnout was below the needed threshold. In Chair, residents in two weeks' time will vote for the candidates of DUI and AA/Alternativa after they won 48.9% and 36.98% respectively. SDSM and DUI will face off in Chashka after their candidates won 39.36% and 33.5% respectively on Sunday. Cheshinovo Obleshevo will have a second round after the candidates of VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM in the first round won 41.43% and 38% of votes respectively. Chucher Sandevo will see a runoff between an independent candidate and SDSM's candidate. They won 42.22% and 41.48% of votes respectively. The VMRO-DPMNE candidate is the new mayor of Shtip after having won 54.22% of votes. In Shuto Orizari, the candidates of SDSM and LPD/DOM on October 31 will face off after winning 37.18% and 25.46% of votes respectively.
