Skopje, 20 April 2022 (MIA) – The NATO membership of both countries and their contribution to the security and stability on the European continent is of enormous importance, says Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani after a meeting with Latvian President Egils Levits, who arrived for an official visit to North Macedonia on Wednesday.
FM Osmani, who welcomed President Levits at the Skopje-based airport, says discussions focused on current political-security challenges resulting from the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
“As a Baltic state well aware of geopolitical risks, Latvia remains our consistent supporter on the EU path, saying that start of Union accession negotiations is of vital significance for North Macedonia and Europe,” Osmani wrote in a Facebook post.
He adds that North Macedonia intends to join the Three Seas Initiative, currently presided by Latvia, also including 12 EU members located around the Baltic, Black and Adriatic seas.
President Levits is expected to meet with host Stevo Pendarovski on Thursday.
