Osmani - Tokayev: OSCE remains sole platform for dialogue despite security challenges

Skopje, 11 August 2023 (MIA) - OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani met Friday with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to discuss the cooperation between Kazakh authorities and the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, the country's domestic issues and ongoing reform processes, as well as current topics related to international cooperation and the situation in the wider region of Central Asia.

"Kazakhstan has an active role in OSCE, and the commitment to the Organization's principles is of great importance and contributes to strengthening its role in OSCE and Central Asia. Which is why, OSCE will continue to support the country, especially in its efforts to deal with safety challenges influenced by the situation in Afghanistan, and implementation of the reform agenda," Osmani said during their meeting in Astana.

OSCE, Osmani added, continues to serve as the only platform for dialogue despite the unprecedented security challenges within the wider OSCE region, which is why I encourage authorities in Kazakhstan to continue to use its support.

"With its expertise and resources, OSCE will continue to support the implementation of reforms, especially good governance policies, environment protection, economic empowerment of women, fight against domestic violence and human trafficking, and gender equality," Osmani stressed.

Besides these issues, OSCE will continue to support Kazakhstan in promoting regional connectivity, strengthening energy security, anti-corruption and implementing media and judicial reforms. ssh/ik/
