Osmani: Ruling and opposition parties to come to an agreement, share EU responsibility and merit
Skopje, 14 October 2022 (MIA) – Now is the time for closer cooperation among political parties, said Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani on Friday, referring to the constitutional changes, EU reforms, energy and economic crisis. On the accession negotiations, the FM says party leaders should meet and reach out, while urging the opposition to be responsible about these issues in the Parliament. The EU topic should not be an issue of daily politics, while responsibility and merit should be shared. “The message to the party leaders is to meet and find the strength to reach out and share responsibility but also the merits. No one will be able to brag of doing something about the EU because merits will be shared,” FM Osmani told reporters. He said EU negotiations should be set aside from daily politics, as demonstrated by the Croatian example. “We must do the same, either through a leaders’ meeting or another form, reach out and say that we will continue to compete on other topics but that this one requires consensus if we want to join the EU. There is no other way,” said Osmani. In Croatia, he added, the opposition was in charge in the Parliament and the Government in the institutions. The agreement between the then-PM and the former opposition leader is considered to be the key to Croatia’s swift completion of the process. He said the European Commission has noted that the Parliament is not up to its task due to the polarization and the attempt to block the institution. “I will not go into issues of daily politics and the EU-flagged laws. We must sit down and come to an agreement that will go beyond one term. This would be a state-level agreement among political parties on this topic, regardless of the party in power or opposition. There is no other way. Otherwise, we will get stuck and go round in circles,” underlined Osmani.
