Osmani: Propaganda narrative on constitutional amendments created for partisan purposes

Skopje, 27 March 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani said on Monday he believes that no one would dare to isolate the country when the time comes to vote for the constitutional amendments.

“I think that the communication of the member states, of our serious partners that are providing guarantees for the credibility of the process, that are defending our interests in Europe, will convince the public and the political parties and no one will dare to isolate the country in the next 10 years with an accelerated track emerging for the region. It will be very difficult to press the red button, to isolate the country so that this issue is solved in around 2033, in much more unfavorable conditions,” FM Osmani told reporters.

The Foreign Minister assessed that a propaganda narrative has been created for partisan purposes.

“The parties are abusing the fear of the citizens for their own partisan purposes and not because of the country’s interests. They don’t have a single argument about why they are against the amendments, which is why I insist that the discussion begins as soon as possible, because I want to see them discussing and I want to see whether they will provide any real arguments,” said Osmani, adding that Bulgaria hasn’t helped create an environment of trust either.

According to him, the whole propaganda narrative on the constitutional amendments will fall apart once the citizens themselves read the amendments and are assured that there is nothing to fear.

“The category ‘others’ includes all other ethnic communities, which means that these constitutional amendments only confirm what is already implicitly stated. I believe that the whole propaganda around the constitutional amendments will fall apart once the citizens themselves read them and are assured that the interests of the country will not be threatened in any way,” said Osmani. ad/ik/
