Osmani: No room for interventions in caretaker government model at these elections, no time for rule change

Skopje, 25 November 2023 (MIA) - There is no room for interventions regarding the caretaker government model (so-called Przhino-government) at these elections, since we are a too close to the election date to change the rules of the game at the last minute, said Foreign Minister and DUI vice-president Bujar Osmani on Saturday.

Osmani told a press briefing the model cannot change for these elections, and it is very important to reach consensus among parties at the coming meeting in December if elections are held in parallel or separately.

According to him, DUI has still not decided whether it would agree on a model change.

"As party vice-president, I would agree that the Przhino-style government is scrapped for the subsequent elections but not these. We are simply too close to the election date to change the rules of the game at the last minute. For these elections, we will go ahead with the same rules as agreed when we formed the coalition," explained Osmani and added the name of the PM in the caretaker government would be known at the beginning of next month.

Osmani said VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski is not against a caretaker government because of the ministers or deputy ministers but because of the ethnic Albanian PM, whereas abandoning the concept aims at resuming the campaign based on albanophobia, europhobia, bulgarophobia etc.

The FM added that the Przhino-style government is not a bad solution from a practical point of view, but by accepting the model, the country sends a message that it cannot ensure "fair play" in any other way.

"It is not a bad solution from a practical point of view, because one cannot accuse the other of rigging the elections afterwards, considering that the minister of interior, minister of labor and social policy, deputy minister of finance come from the opposition. On the other hand, it bothers me because this model is not good for a NATO member-state, a candidate for EU accession, and we need to possess our own capacity for fair elections," underlined Osmani.
