Osmani announces new major initiative of OSCE Chairmanship: Fight against corruption in SEE region

Skopje, 12 May 2023 (MIA) - A major initiative of North Macedonia's OSCE Chairmanship will focus on the fight against corruption in the region of Southeast Europe (SEE), said Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani who is paying an official two-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of his activities as OSCE Chairman-in-Office. 

 

He pointed out that in accordance with the Chairmanship's priorities, a regional meeting will be organized on fight against corruption through strengthening the countries' positions and overcoming the situation more easily, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.  

 

"The meeting, which will be organized in Skopje in July, will bring together ministers from the whole region of Southeast Europe, and it is planned to end with the signing of a joint statement reaffirming our common commitment to strengthening the response to this crime," Osmani said in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday.

 

The Chairmanship's major initiative to fight corruption in the SEE region aims to gain broad political support from countries in the region to strengthen their efforts to develop and implement stronger policies and practices to deal with corruption.

 

Osmani noted that the fight against corruption is a key priority for the region and is of critical importance for the progress of the entire SEE region, but it is also at the top of the list of the OSCE Chairmanship's priorities.

 

In this regard, Osmani said that the OSCE will continue to support the authorities in the effective implementation of anti-corruption laws and regulations, and will continue to devote significant efforts to this work in the future for the entire region.
