Opposition to initiate gov’t no-confidence vote if Zaev doesn’t resign today
Skopje, 8 November 2021 (MIA) – The opposition is waiting for Prime Minister Zoran Zaev on Monday by 2:30 pm at the latest to submit his resignation to Parliament. If the resignation isn’t sent to Parliament, the opposition has announced it will file a government no-confidence motion. On Sunday, opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski reiterated that a majority has been secured to approve a no-confidence vote of the government unless PM Zaev resigns. Also, he called on other lawmakers, in addition to the 61 who already are part of the majority, as he said, to join them. “The door remains open for anyone who thinks that this government of Zaev is not good. Anyone who supports this government, of course, will not be part of the MPs who will vote no confidence. There is no political party here, but it is about MPs. A total of 61 MPs supported the initiative. I call on the others to join,” the VMRO-DPMNE leader said. According to him, after the submission of the motion, the procedure will be in the hands of the Parliament Speaker, who should respect the procedure and deadlines. Following the latest developments, DUI, the junior government coalition partner, yesterday held a session of its central board to debate future steps of the party after Zaev had announced he will step down. After the meeting, DUI spokesman Bujar Osmani said that they have authorized DUI leader Ali Ahmeti to make decisions alone. On Sunday, SDSM only issued a statement to express skepticism over the announced new parliamentary majority. “They will show in the coming days whether a new anti-democratic, anti-Prespa, anti-NATO and anti-EU government will be elected and whether Mickoski has capacity and responsibility,” the ruling party said accusing Mickoski and his party of having “no political ideas, no values, no political principles or platform.” The conflict of policies and conflict of values of everyone assembled, said SDSM, cannot deliver anything in the interest of the citizens and in the state’s national interests.
