One person killed in Kokoshinje village wildfire

Skopje, 29 July 2024 (MIA) - A man was killed in a wildfire that engulfed the village of Kokoshinje in Kumanovo, the head of the Crisis Management Center (CMC), Stojanche Angelov said on Monday evening.
According to Angelov, the man most likely died of smoke inhalation, his wife was successfully evacuated.
The head of the CMC said over 30 wildfires were registered on Monday.
“More than 15 wildfires broke out around noon, which spread rapidly due to the wind and engulfed several villages, which are more or less abandoned, with few or no inhabitants. However, 15 villages were engulfed by the wildfires,” Angelov said.
Angelov said three villages were affected by the fires in the Municipality of Kumanovo – Kshanje, Kokoshinja and Murgash, where several mainly old houses burnt down.
Three villages in Staro Nagorichane were affected by wildfires as well – the villages of Malotino, Rurgjence and Konjuk, which also have few inhabitants and older houses, according to Angelov.
