Magdeburg, 20 December 2024 (dpa/MIA) - At least one person was killed and more than 50 others injured after a car ploughed into a Christmas market in the central German city of Magdeburg on Friday evening, Mayor Regina-Dolores Stieler-Hinz said.

Medics were treating injured people lying on the ground in front of the market stalls. Other victims have been rushed to the Magdeburg University Hospital.

The incident is being treated as a suspected attack, state and local authorities said.

The driver of the vehicle has been taken into police custody, sources close to the investigation told dpa.
