Observance of 122nd anniversary of Goce Delchev’s death

Skopje, 4 May 2025 (MIA) - The country is set to mark the 122nd anniversary of the death of Macedonian revolutionary and freedom fighter Goce Delchev on Sunday. Official delegations and citizens will lay flowers at Delchev’s tomb in the St. Spas church in Skopje and the 2025 “Goce Delchev” state award for outstanding achievement in the field of science in the interest of the state will be presented in Parliament as part of the events marking the anniversary.

A Parliament delegation led by Deputy Speaker Antonijo Miloshoski and composed of Velika Stojkova-Serafimovska, Sanja Lukarevska and Pavle Arsovski, as well as a Government delegation led by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski composed of Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski and Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska are expected to lay flowers at Delchev’s tomb alongside partisan delegations, associations and citizens.

On Sunday afternoon, the 2025 “Goce Delchev” state award for outstanding achievement in the field of science in the interest of the state will be presented in Parliament. The event will be addressed by Education Minister Vesna Janevska.

The award will be presented to a work mapping Macedonian dialects by a group of authors: Veselinka Labroska, Marjan Markovikj, Kosta Peev, Vasil Drvoshanov, Elena Stoevska-Denchova, Stevlana Davkova-Gjorgieva, Goce Cvetanovski, Angelina Panchevska, Sonja Milenkovska, Davor Jankulovski, Makedonka Dodevska, Darko Tomovski, Gjorgje Genovikj, Ariton Popovski, Marijana Kish, and Ubavka Gajdova.

A visionary inspired by revolutionary ideals, Goce Delchev was born in Kukush on February 4, 1872, and was active in revolutionary movements.

He attended the Thessaloniki high school and the Sofia Military Academy. As the member of the Macedonian Revolutionary Organization, Delchev worked on the establishment of a network of committees and fighting units of the organization.

Goce Delchev, who understood the world as a field for cultural contest among nations, was killed by an Ottoman unit on May 4, 1903, in the village of Banica, near Serres.
