NSA head to report on ‘Onyshchenko’ case at a closed government session
Skopje, 23 November 2022 (MIA) – Head of the National Security Agency (NSA), Viktor Dimovski, will present a report on the "Onyshchenko" case at a closed government session on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Dimovski will present to the government the details on how a positive opinion was issued so as to award Ukrainian national Oleksandr Onyshchenko a Macedonian citizenship.
“I cannot say more than that, since sharing information about closed government sessions is a crime,” said Kovachevski.
Kovachevski didn't say if his meeting with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security was about the "Onyshchenko" case.
“I cannot share details about the conversation with the NATO Assistant Secretary General,” said Kovachevski briefly.
Ukrainian national Onyshchenko, who is blacklisted by the US due to his ties with the Russian authorities, was granted Macedonian citizenship as an equestrian athlete after his name was proposed by the Equestrian Federation. The government approved his Macedonian citizenship after receiving a positive opinion from all relevant institutions.
In addition, Speaker Talat Xhaferi told a press briefing on Wednesday that the Parliament will await an official report from the Ministry of Interior and will then issue a press release informing the public about last week's closed session of the committee supervising the work of the NSA and the Intelligence Agency.
The committee’s session was closed for the public, but Dimovski’s statement on the process of issuing Macedonian citizenship to Oleksandr Onyshchenko was streamed live on YouTube.
Xhaferi said that he cannot comment for now because first they will need to determine whether this was the result of an intrusion from outside, wiretapping or some kind of a mistake. ad/nn/
